Jessica shelton
After receiving a license in cosmetology in 2011, Jess knew she loved transforming women’s hair & helping people truly FEEL amazing. She loved the science and creativity behind color & learning new techniques so she expanded upon her knowledge from school and took many courses & classes to become a Blonding Specialist. She spent some time renting a chair in a couple different salons through her career but always struggled because she never had anyone teach or show her how to run her own little business which included how to manage finances, inventory, services & customer service.
When you’re a renter, they throw you out into a salon and tell ya “good luck!” It’s extremely difficult being a booth renter - not only are you having to attract the kind of clientele needed & manage and run your own mini business but also be technically on point & a creative genius & make someone’s hair goals come to life and find a way to actually profit and still love what you do... which is transforming hair so women feel beautiful and confident! She felt it was extremely overwhelming at times and frustrating but pushed through and decided she wanted to get a grasp on how to do it better so she COULD still love doing hair She took classes, online courses & read any book or article she could get her hands on. She started finding her way, booking guests & managing her own little business and was doing great! But she wanted more. She wanted to find that ultimate something that set her apart and gave her an edge. She wanted to help other stylists be successful, too. She wanted more education and knowledge on how she could offer her guests the best in every aspect.
Jess knew color & extensions helped women feel more confident but with the current methods out there, she didn’t see a great solution she felt comfortable offering to her guests. So, Jess began her search in finding the best method for all types of hair. Ones that wouldn’t damage or slip out, looked natural and gave her guests massive confidence. She learned of “hand-tied hair” and was curious. It was all rage. She took a class just to get an idea of what it was all about and found she was not impressed with it but didn’t write it off just yet. She knew the type of hair it was was great, but the way it was being put in was NOT. There had to be someone who knew how to teach her how to do it right. So she searched and searched & came across a company she had followed for a little while called BMS/Natural Beaded Rows which specialized in using hand-tied hair with the NBR method. The education, training and serious business coaching they offered was what she’d been looking for! Soon after she joined with this company, she KNEW she wanted to be a business owner of her own salon and help lead newer stylists into becoming confident, strong women who were successful & could really perfect their craft. She knew she could help them grow and not struggle as badly as she did. She wanted to teach her stylists all the things she taught herself over years and years of experience and through the training of BMS.
After years of hard work, extensive training and never taking her eyes off of her goals, she was able to open her own styling studio in February 2020. Jess being born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, she was proud to become a business owner in the same city she grew up. Amarillo is where she met her husband, Josh, and began their sweet little family with the addition of their daughter, Charlie Jane. Not only is she a master of her craft behind the chair, but she is also an amazing leader, wonderful cook, homemaker and a very gifted painter as well. She loves spending time with her family and painting nails with Charlie Jane. Jess’ biggest passion is making women feel beautiful & confident and now she has the place to be able to create confidence in her guests AND her stylists.
